A Girl with Scars
Not long ago, the Australian women's magazine 'Women's Weekly' was published with a very unusual cover. Instead of the standard beauty, readers were met with the face of a girl who could hardly be called pretty. Scars from burns disfigured her face beyond recognition, but it didn't deter anyone - it was Turia Pitt, recently a fashionable model and very promising athlete. Turia Pitt's life is now divided into two main periods - Before and After.
Before the Accident
Before the unfortunate incident, Turia was a beauty queen, a contestant for the title of 'Miss Earth Australia,' a popular fashion model, and a track and field athlete. She grew up accustomed to training, working hard, and calmly accepting her victories. She didn't let defeats get to her, but instead did everything to minimize them in her life. She enjoyed life, loved her friends and family, adored her job, and dreamed of a successful career. All her dreams were shattered in 2011 when Turia decided to participate in the 100-kilometer marathon, the famous RacingThePlanet race. It may sound ominous now, but at that time, the marathon organizers initially denied her participation - Turia hadn't paid the entry fee. If everything had gone according to plan, she would have never experienced what she did. But as they say, all paths are written in the stars, and just before the race, Turia received a call offering her a spot - there was a shortage of athletes. Turia agreed, and on that fateful day, she stood at the starting line of the RTP marathon, thinking that her dream had come true as she had longed to participate in this race. During the marathon, a terrible bushfire broke out, and Turia, along with several other runners, found themselves trapped in a ring of fire. She suffered severe burns - 64 percent of her body, mostly her back and face. Those were the terrifying figures given by the doctors. Miraculously, she survived, but it required dozens of skin graft surgeries and two long years of recovery. She lost fingers on one hand and one leg, but she survived. However, on the day Turia looked at herself in the mirror for the first time after the fire, she suddenly felt that she would have been better off never escaping that fire - the reflection staring back at her was not her own, but someone else's face that bore no resemblance to the former beauty, Turia Pitt. The horrific burns had disfigured her beyond recognition. This marked the beginning of a new series of challenges for Turia, who now had to learn to live in a new reality with a new face. At some point, she even thought she couldn't bear it anymore, but then love came to her rescue, as if in a fairytale.
The Power of Love
It was Michael Hoskin, her beloved Michael, whom she had known since school. He was the one who found the right words for his bride, and he stood by her side throughout the time when Turia teetered between life and death. Patiently and lovingly, he helped her recover - teaching her how to walk, dressing her, feeding her, and being the best caregiver in the world. He had to quit his job and find another one to spend more time in the hospital. When the day came to go home, Michael was the one who led Turia to the hospital porch. Today, Turia Pitt lives a new life. She surfs, rides a bicycle, works as a mining engineer, and finds time for public speaking as a motivational speaker. She also devotes a lot of time to charity - having gone through a serious illness, she now knows the importance of support for people in need. Not long ago, she became the subject of a documentary film about herself called 'Phoenix,' which is being funded by donations. Turia Pitt has also written a biography. As for the question of whether plastic surgery can restore her beauty, there is no answer yet - anything is possible, but for now, Turia lives with scars on her face and body, which she may not have fully accepted but has started to get used to. The organizers of that marathon compensated Turia, as their indirect responsibility in the incident was proven.
